Thierry "Chan" Costa – Taiji Quan is a Way of Life !

Taiji is not merely a form of gymnastics — it is poetry in motion, a conversation between the body and the universe.

Since 2004, taiji quan has been far more than a passion for me — it has been a quest, a human and spiritual journey. My path began with Greg and Nathalie, founders of the ASBL Eqilibre, who gave me my first spark. Then came the encounter that changed my life: Master John Ding (direct disciple of Grand Master Ip Tai Tak). Five years of intense study, leading me to become an official instructor of his school.

In 2009, I took over the Eqilibre school with one conviction: to share this art with authenticity, without ego or grand titles. That same year, I crossed paths with Master Boyd (Bao Tak Fai), the second disciple of Grand Master Ip Tai Tak — a man of rare depth whose teaching left a lifelong imprint on me. Nine years of training by his side, culminating in my Master Teacher certification in 2017. He even offered me the honor of becoming his disciple, but circumstances led elsewhere… and yet the essential remains: his legacy lives within each of my movements.

Then came Master Adam Mizner, whose energetic approach fascinated me. As a first-level instructor, I explored new dimensions — until a disagreement made me step away. Because taiji, for me, must remain a free art, without dogma or rigidity.

And today? I’m not a “Master” — just an eternal student, but one with enough perspective to guide your own path. My online courses blend precision and lightness, where technique meets sensitivity. Here, there is no competition — only the joy of learning together, gently and sincerely.

So… ready to dance with Qi?
“Shifu Chan” (if you insist… but “Thierry” or simply “Chan” suits me just fine!)

In addition to my online courses, you can also join me for in-person sessions, whether in group classes or private lessons. I teach at my home in Maransart, as well as in Brussels and in several sports clubs across Brabant Wallon and Brussels.
I also work with companies, offering well-being sessions, team-building activities and regular programs adapted to your teams’ needs.
I organise workshops and retreats in Belgium and abroad, including in Greece, on the island of Sými, where I teach every year.
If you would like to host a workshop or a retreat near you, feel free to contact me: with a minimum number of participants, I can travel to your location.
